About
Dr. Jessica Green is a serial founder whose 30-plus-year career has translated frontier science into real-world impact across academia, industry, and government. In academia, she joined the founding faculty of the University of California, Merced, before the campus broke ground, and later co-founded the Biology and Built Environment Center at the University of Oregon. In industry, she co-founded and served as CEO of Phylagen, a San Francisco-based microbiome analytics company named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she led the development of novel methods for monitoring airborne pathogens in buildings as large as the World Trade Center complex. In government, she began her career in the early years of the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, an independent federal agency overseeing safety at the nation's nuclear weapons complex, and is now a Founding Program Manager at the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), where she leads programs advancing healthy buildings, antibiotic resistance, and women's health. She has co-authored peer-reviewed articles cited more 25,000 times, including in Nature, Science, and PNAS. Her honors include a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Blaise Pascal International Research Chair, two TED Fellowships, and a UC Berkeley School of Public Health Impact Fellowship.
